About Jay Pluss

Jay Pluss is a hip hop producer, event coordinator, and creative force from the Boston area with a career spanning over two decades. Born and raised in Massachusetts, Jay began making music in the early 2000s, initially as a rapper/producer before transitioning fully to production in 2009. Over the years, he’s recorded and engineered more than 100 songs—most of which he produced himself—sharpening his sound and building a name in the underground music scene.
Jay’s production style draws heavy inspiration from legends like DJ Premier, 9th Wonder, The Alchemist, Dr. Dre, Just Blaze, and J Dilla. Known for gritty, hard-hitting drums and grimy sample chops, Jay’s sound is deeply rooted in 90s and early 2000s boom bap. He’s a student of the craft, constantly analyzing drum patterns, studying obscure records for samples, and deep-diving into the catalogs of frequently sampled artists to find fresh inspiration.
Before music, Jay explored a variety of creative outlets including drawing, painting, claymation, and videography. His first dream was to become a cartoonist, even creating dozens of characters and theme songs for a potential animated series.
In 2014, Jay launched musicpluss.com, a hybrid beat store and artist-focused social platform. The goal was to give artists a place to share music and build community outside traditional social media. While the platform eventually evolved, it laid the foundation for jaypluss.com, Jay’s current website and creative hub.
Jay’s resume includes:

• Releasing the #ISTHATJAYPLUSS beat tape series (2014–2016), offering free beats for artists to use non-exclusively.

• Launching the Bars Over Beats online contest in 2016, awarding beats and cash prizes to lyrical talent.

• Hosting his first live event Hip Hop Halloween in October 2016.

• Being nominated for Producer of the Year at the 2017 New England Hip Hop Awards.

• Producing over a dozen Grind Mode Cyphers and participating in beat showcases like Wreckshop Movement, Beat Stew Showcase, and Drum Machine Vibes.

• Featured in International Music Magazine multiple times, including a full-page spread in 2020.
From 2020–2023, Jay coordinated a series of hip hop events across Greater Boston to help artists connect and collaborate. Highlights include the Jungle Vibes series and The Breach Tour, a four-day networking event with out-of-state artists that featured cyphers, interviews, photo shoots, and a mini-documentary.
In 2019, Jay expanded his creative brand by launching Exclusive Apparels (@xclsvbrnd), a streetwear clothing line featuring all original designs by Jay himself. The brand’s website, exclusiveapparels.com, serves as both a storefront and a visual extension of Jay’s artistry, blending music and fashion into one cohesive platform.
In May 2024, Jay launched Local Hip Hop Events (@localhiphopevents), an Instagram account aimed at spotlighting artist-driven events around the world. The page helps artists expand their reach by promoting their shows and connecting them with others in different cities and regions. It’s quickly become a go-to page for event discovery and artist networking in the underground scene.
In December 2024, Jay collaborated with lyricist RJ Payne on the EP ProPayne, marking a significant milestone in his career. His production credits also include work with artists such as Young Zee, Craig G, Mickey Factz, King Gordy, Hitman Holla, Jelly Roll, Twisted Insane, and more.
Jay has also performed live producer showcases and cyphers with collectives like Wreckshop Movement, Donut Lounge, Tour For Life, The Freestyle Clinic, Bridgeside, and others. He’s participated in well-known local events such as the LFOD Cypher, Beat Pong, Hoop Hop, and more.
His services include custom beats, producer collaborations, flyer design, promotional videos, loop packs, and more. In his spare time, Jay studies piano, develops music for sync licensing, and continuously builds new loop libraries for upcoming collaborations.
Whether producing tracks, curating events, designing clothing, or building platforms for others, Jay Pluss remains focused on a core mission: to bring artists together and create a collaborative ecosystem rooted in passion, positivity, and purpose.
